4th Mo Co E, Company Muster

 Company Muster of the

Company E

Fourth Missouri infantry Regiment

Confederate States of America

On April 28th, 1862 the Fourth Missouri Infantry Regiment mustered into the Confederate Army in Memphis, Tennessee. We will be re-enacting that event on April 28th, 2012 in Osceola, Missouri. Osceola has been chosen because it was razed to the ground by Jayhawker red legs, retains it s displeasure to this day, and host the grave of Mister John Ragland, Sergeant of Company E, 4th Missouri infantry Regiment.

The men will start as civilian (in case you don’t have a weapon) and Missouri State Guard. Grand speeches will be given to the citizenry. We will have a picnic lunch. Men will be mustered into the Confederacy. We have proper forms to be signed and loyalty oaths for our civilians. Everyone in period dress is welcome to participate in this event, regardless of other military association. We want as many soldiers as possible to muster into service that day.  None are expected to fall in with the 4th after this event. We also want as many civilians as possible to fill in the crowd and sign loyalty oaths if they desire.

Since we are civilians or Missouri State Guard going into Confederate service we will have our camp intermixed with soldiers, civilians, women, and children.

Men should dress in Missouri State Guard or civilian and once you muster into Confederate service you will  change into your gray uniform (if you have one) for the rest of the day.

We have two muster sheets to be signed. One is for anyone who wants to sign up for Confederate service no matter who they are or how they are dressed (period or modern). The other muster sheet is for members of the 4th who have not signed OUR 4th Missouri muster sheet.

The Itinerary is as follows:

Saturday we will be doing a company mess for everyone dressed in period attire at the cost of $5 per person. That will cover all three meals. Please let us know if you are planning on eating with us so that we have enough food.

We are asking that once you arrive and put on your period attire, that you stay in character the entire event until the grave side salute to Captain John Ragland of the original 4th Missouri Company E.
